Mr. Waar is a talented young South Sudanese artist who has managed to make a name both internationally and locally. He is a great fan of Jazz music and because of the love he struggled to ensure that he too becomes as good.
He is privileged to perform on Saturday during the SOSA Awards where he has been nominated about five times, as best reggae artist, best dancehall artist, best male artist, best stage or live performance artist, and best collaboration.
SOSA Awards was establish in 2009 by Juba Wood Entertainments and Productions to celebrate South Sudanese and other minorities in music acting sports and others, it aims at exposing the richness of Southern Sudanese Art and Culture.Being able to compose both international and local songs, he said this gives him an advantage because when he goes to where his fans like international musician he will be able to entertain them and the same with his local fans.
He also learnt how to flavor the voice from up and down. He is given a lot of respect by Jamaican artists because they consider him very good, his music would be played in clubs and radio stations. Two more South Sudanese who do jazz very well back in the US too.
Explaining his background, he comes from Warrap state and was the first son of his father, and mother who were from Awiel
For every level of life where one has reached, there is always a humble beginning somewhere. Back in the late 1980s, Mr. Waar got separated from his family which he attributes to being his major inspiration. Being lonely or rather away from the rest of his family, made him experienced pain and sorrows of life, hence the beginning of his music interest, he would sing to ease the immense pain he was experiencing.
Back in Kakuma refugees camp, he spent most of his time either in school or carrying out his business activities which he supported himself with. According to him he would carry along a traditional instrument called Thom (Guitar), which he would play as he waited for buyers to come along, from there he joined John Bosco Jazz band and stayed on until 2001 when he went to the US.
The first time he ever wrote a song of his own was while back in the United States where he learnt how to write songs and compose a tune too.
He released his first album in the year 2005 titled Emmanuel Akook, this song took his career to a level where he was recognized as a great artist.
In the year 2010, he decided to come back to South Sudan; however this was a big hit to South Sudanese community in the US because they considered him a big asset to them.
On returning to South Sudan in the year 2010, Waar was able to record his first song in his mother tongue titled Anyic Nhialic (God Knows), reminding the people of South Sudan that God Knows that one day we are going to get our land.
In the year 2011, his first hit video was released (Sugu Berah), mainly talking about road safety. Within the same year he released a song dedicated to mothers which also became very popular.
But he strongly believes that good music will always find a way to penetrate. Good things always open their own way, and as for him he knows he is going to forge his own way up.
It is the hope of Mr. Waar that South Sudan Music industry would change for the better and this would take a lot of promotion both from the media and the government as well maybe through the Ministry of Youth and Culture.
His Best artist is Bounty killa Jamaican. The one who inspired his dancehall music and also others like sizza, matt cobra.
When he left it was a big hit to South Sudanese in the US because he was their best.
His songs include, Sugu Berah, Sexy girl and South Sudanese pounds, mostly played on Radio Junubna and V.O.P.
Waar was rated as one of the famous Dinka in the world and he was number 4 in Google. However, he was not getting what he deserves from his popularity. That is why he decided to come back to motherland, and make a name for himself because the competition is not as stiff.
